Dress Code

Dress code preserves the integrity of Move Dance Academy's artistic direction, eliminates distraction, establishes uniformity, promotes discipline, confidence and poise, contributes to the safety of our dancers, and allows our dancers to feel a part of a cohesive unit. Dress code attire allows instructors to see dancers' alignment and form to better correct.

Trial Lessons

Dancers do not need to be in dress code for trial lessons, however, it is highly recommended to help your dancer feel more comfortable in their new environment as well as get the full class experience.

Helpful tip: Show this webpage to your sales associate to ensure you purchase the correct items. We recommend that all dance wear is purchased at a dance wear store (Target does not stock the correct tights, leotards or shoes).

  • All clothing must be clean and in good shape (no holes).

  • No jewelry or distracting accessories permitted. 

 

Mini Ballet

  • Blue ("copen") leotard without shorts or a skirt/tutu attached 

    • Any sleeve length ​

  • Ballet pink convertible tights​

  • Pink ballet shoes with laces trimmed and tucked into shoes

  • Hair in a neat and secure bun

Mini Hip-Hop

  • Blue ("copen") leotard without a skirt/tutu attached 

    • Any sleeve length ​

  • Black spandex dance shorts 

  • Clean sneakers (shoes for inside use only preferred) 

  • Hair in a neat and secure bun or ponytail

Mini Tap & Ballet

  • Blue ("copen") leotard without a skirt/tutu attached 

    • Any sleeve length ​

  • Ballet pink convertible tights​

  • Pink ballet shoes with laces trimmed and tucked into shoes

  • Black tap shoes (Velcro preferred) 

  • Hair in a neat and secure bun

  • Solid black leotard without shorts or a skirt/tutu attached 

    • Any sleeve length ​

  • Ballet pink convertible tights​

  • Pink ballet shoes with laces trimmed and tucked into shoes

  • Hair in a neat and secure bun

Jazz, Lyrical & Contemporary (All Levels)

  • Formfitting athletic attire

    • Example: leggings or spandex shorts with a crop top, t-shirt or tank​

  • Tan jazz shoes or half-soles 

  • Hair in a neat and secure bun or ponytail

Hip-Hop (All Levels)

  • Athletic attire 

    • Example: leggings, shorts or sweats with a crop top, t-shirt or tank​

  • Clean sneakers (shoes for inside use only preferred) 

  • Hair in a neat and secure ponytail

Acrobatics (All Levels)

  • Formfitting athletic attire (leotard preferred)

  • Spandex dance shorts

  • Bare feet

Tap (All Levels)

  • Formfitting athletic attire

  • Example: leggings or spandex shorts with a crop top, t-shirt or tank​
